Trauma is not one thing we treat. It is the only thing we treat. Holistic Trauma Therapy® is a dedicated trauma practice on North Madison Avenue, in the Playhouse District. Our clinicians have spent their careers in this single field, training and retraining in the modalities that reach traumatic wounding specifically, because trauma does not respond to general therapy the way it responds to care built for it.
We specialize in childhood and complex trauma, sexual abuse and trauma, racial trauma, religious trauma, family trauma, and workplace trauma, along with the full spectrum of traumatic wounding. Depth-oriented care, delivered in a space designed to feel like nowhere else you have sat to do this work.
A Room That Was Not Designed Like a Clinic
Most therapy happens in rooms that announce themselves as medical. Fluorescent light, institutional carpet, a box of tissues on a laminate table. There is an unspoken message in a room like that, and the message is that you are a case to be managed.
Our office was built on the opposite premise. Windows and natural light. Living plants and natural materials. Warm lamplight rather than overhead glare. Furnishings chosen for comfort and beauty rather than ordered from a clinical catalog. It feels closer to a room in a well-kept home than to a medical suite, because the space a person sits in shapes what becomes possible to say, and depth work asks a great deal of what becomes possible to say.
When you arrive there is a private waiting area. You let us know you are here, and your clinician comes out to meet you when your session begins. Intake is completed beforehand through a secure online system, and payment is handled automatically, so none of the administrative machinery of therapy follows you into the room. The hour is yours. It is meant to feel that way.

Who Comes Through This Door
Pasadena is a city of people who are good at things.
The researcher who can hold a decade-long problem in her mind and cannot hold a Saturday. The physician up Fair Oaks who absorbs other people's emergencies for twelve hours and then cannot fall asleep. The attorney whose competence is so complete that no one has asked how she is since roughly 2019. The founder, the partner, the director, the one everyone calls when it goes wrong.
And the ones whose Pasadena runs deeper than its institutions. The adult child of parents who crossed an ocean so that this address could exist, carrying a debt that was never itemized and can never quite be paid. The person who grew up in one of these houses and learned early that the family's peace depended on their performance.
Different lives, the same nervous system, running the same strategy it built at seven and never retired. None of this is unusual here. It is nearly the water.
We Do One Thing
There are many capable generalist therapists in Pasadena who treat anxiety, depression, relationships, and life transitions, and who see trauma among many other things. Our practice is not that. Trauma is our entire field. Our training, our continuing education, our supervision, and our clinical attention are devoted to it and to nothing else. When the wound is traumatic, that focus is not a preference. It is what the work requires.
We work at depth. Depth psychology means we follow the symptom inward rather than managing it at the surface, because with trauma the anxiety is not the problem to be solved. It is the door. Within that lens we work with the parts of you that formed early and are still running the show. We work somatically, because the body kept a record the mind did not authorize. And we use Holistic EMDR where a memory needs reprocessing, always after your nervous system has the resources to hold it.
This is slower than general therapy, and it is meant to be. What formed over decades does not unwind in eight sessions, and anyone who promises otherwise is selling you something. We respect the evidence-based clinical model and we use it. But a protocol applied to a symptom is not the same as specialized care that reaches the wound underneath it, and that is the care we were trained to give.
Holistic Trauma Therapy® was founded by Chief Traumatologist Seema Sharma, whose training runs from Somatic Experiencing under Peter Levine and Compassionate Inquiry under Gabor Maté through EMDR, IFS, AASECT sex therapy, and advanced complex-trauma and dissociation certification. That training is the standard every clinician here is held to. When you sit with one of our therapists, you are sitting with someone chosen and trained for depth, supervised closely, and devoted, as the whole practice is, to trauma and nothing else.
In-Person or Virtual
You live in Pasadena, so the office is close, and for certain somatic and EMDR work a shared room offers something a screen cannot. If that is what serves you, the door is four minutes off the 210.
Many of our Pasadena clients still choose to meet virtually, from an office on Lake or a quiet house in Bungalow Heaven. The work goes just as deep. Depth psychology and parts work translate cleanly to telehealth, and for some people a little distance is exactly what makes the first honest sentence possible. It is a conversation we will have together, not a rule we apply to you.
The Practical Part
We are a private-pay practice. Fees run from $200 to $450 depending on the clinician, and we provide superbills for clients with out-of-network benefits. We keep this visible rather than buried, because clarity is part of the care. Sessions are held Monday through Friday. You can reach us at 626.605.1785.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
At Holistic Trauma Therapy® fees range from $200 to $450 per session depending on the clinician. We are a private-pay practice and provide superbills for clients with out-of-network insurance benefits. Private-pay trauma care in Pasadena commonly falls in this range, and we keep our fees visible rather than asking you to inquire.
-
Many therapists are trauma-informed, meaning they practice with an awareness of how trauma affects people. A trauma-specialized practice does only trauma work. Every clinician's training, supervision, and continuing education is devoted to traumatic wounding specifically. For a single traumatic event, trauma-informed care may be enough. For complex, childhood, sexual, or workplace trauma, specialization tends to reach what general care cannot.
-
After an initial period of building safety and understanding your history, sessions follow the wound inward rather than only discussing it. Depending on what you need, that may involve parts work, somatic attention to what the body is holding, or holistic EMDR once your nervous system is resourced for it. The pace is set by your system, not by a protocol.
-
It depends on the nature of the trauma. Single-incident trauma can move more quickly. Complex or childhood trauma that formed over years unfolds over a longer arc, because what took decades to form does not resolve in a handful of sessions. We will talk honestly with you about what your situation is likely to ask for.
-
We specialize in childhood and complex trauma, sexual abuse and trauma, and workplace trauma, and we treat the full spectrum beyond those, including relational and family trauma, narcissistic abuse, complex PTSD, and dissociation. Trauma is the entire focus of the practice.
-
No. Many of our Pasadena area clients meet virtually even though the office is close. In-person is available and sometimes preferable for certain somatic and EMDR work, but it is a conversation rather than a requirement.
-
Schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. We will talk briefly about what brings you here and whether our approach fits. There is no obligation, and you do not have to know exactly what to say.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out for immediate support. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day.
